Greetings friends, family, supporters and patrons!

It has now been 1 year of being a self employed artist. I have survived! That was all I had the courage to hope for when I started this, I haven't gone broke, and I have plenty of ideas for new works. I'm very grateful for all of your support, be that kind words, art purchases, art installation work, signpainting and hot sauce sales. In the coming weeks I will be going through my long term and short term goals and I'm feeling confident enough to focus on thriving and not just surviving.

TAG Team 3

TAG Team was great! We had plenty of people come to the opening and it was great to be a part of a healthy arts community here in Tauranga. I had some prints and 3 new works that have ignited a whole new range of ideas for future possibilities.

St Lukes Church Tauranga Liturgical Calendar

Liturgical calendar prints have been selling very well! All those who have ordered framed prints will get them this weekend. Last weekend I delivered a large canvas print to an Auckland church and I have been invited to speak there in February 2024. I now also have very affordable A3 size poster quality prints available for $20 and $30.

Tuhua 1

2022, oil on canvas, 500 x 500mm. $1000

Tuhua (Mayor Island) sits 35 kilometres off the coast of the Bay of Plenty. It is well known as a fishing destination, but many years ago it was famed for being the place of obsidian, a hard black volcanic glass that was highly prized by Maori for tools and weapons. This view is from Papamoa hills, a significant Pa site here in Tauranga. The geometric structure is known as Metatron's cube. "In sacred geometry, Archangel Metatron, the angel of life oversees the flow of energy in a mystical cube known as Metatron's Cube, which contains all of the geometric shapes in creation and represents the patterns that make up everything God has made". This work is part of the development process for a large commission for some good friends.

Epilogue - Rest Home Retable

This is is bit different for me. It is a photographic print on archival paper. Unique 1/1
Image size 400x 283mm, framed size 565 x 433mm.Framed with archival materials and Artglass AR 70. $600
My Mum lives in Tui Haven, the secure dementia ward at Cedar Manor Rest Home. She is in her final chapter of life. In some ways the wonderful story has already ended and we are now in the tragic Epilogue. Mum shares a room with a lovely friend who has a collection of owls. This arrangement of owls and a nearly dead plant seemed beautiful, tragic and a little bit funny. Owls are a symbol of wisdom and perception, things that reside deep within us, even after our minds have failed. I found them arranged like this, nestled in a recessed shelf that acted like a Retable (a frame or shelf behind a church alter that holds revered objects)

I had the privilege of making a custom casket for Dad when he passed and I plan on doing the same for Mum this summer.

Hot Sauce!

My homemade hot sauce was a hit! I had planned to go to local markets but sold out before that could happen. I have just ordered 600 empty bottles and while I'm patiently waiting for my next crop to grow I have acquired a bag of Rocoto chillies from a local grower to brew a batch of "Tomato Fusion" which will be one of the 5 different sauces available next year. The other sauce varieties will be: Ginger Zest, Scorpion Sting, Pumpkin Orange, Extra Garlic. Keep an eye on my Instagram / Facebook for updates.

Mental Health

This year has been amazing and very fulfilling. But in the midst of deep contentment and excitement, dark thoughts hover nearby and I'm often reminded that healthy habits both mental and physical are essential for flourishing.
Psychiatrist Dr Daniel Amen coined the anacronym ANTs : Automatic Negative Thoughts to describe the damaging self-reflective process we can all find ourselves in at times. Watch Dr Amen here.

ANTs can be triggered by comments, events, mistakes, memories or just turn up uninvited for no reason. It is important to deal with the problem and “Squash the ANTs” before they take over your mental home.
1. Take a minute to meditate and notice the ANTs. Recognize what is happening. Just being able to see it from a distance enables us to categorize and silence it.
2. See the lie. Often ANTs are exaggerations or outright lies. Write them down.
3. Is there any truth in the ANT that you need to be aware of? Are you veering off the right path?
4. Remind yourself of the truth. Write, feel, and speak out a list of declarations and affirmations that are the reality of your world. Write things that relate to your values, dreams, and goals. Get excited about your beautiful future!
