Greetings friends, family, supporters and patrons!
It's been 7 months since my last newsletter so here's what I've been up to:

The wait is over! After many months of growing, brewing, tasting, bottling, lettering and designing; sauce is available for purchase. Scroll down the page to see multi bottle discount options. Buy the whole set for $42! This year I have 6 delicious flavours with a range of heat levels to suit everyone. For those fans of last years batch, it is now named "Habanero & Wine". T shirts are also available!

New Job

What has been taking most of my time is my new job. In May I bid farewell to the team at Turning Point where I had been working since December 2021. I liked the work I was doing there and was proud to be a part of such an important kaupapa helping people with their mental health and addiction recovery journey.
I was invited back to Tauranga Art Gallery on a temporary contract as Redevelopment Project Manager. Te Manawataki o Te Papa is the name of the civic centre redevelopment that encompasses a new library, museum, council offices and landscaped parkway that flows from Baycourt down to the waterfront. Tauranga Art Gallery will be closing at the end of the month to allow Masonic park to be redeveloped and during that time the Gallery will have a few upgrades and maintenance work. It's great to be back in the gallery helping create a vital new cultural epicentre for Tauranga.

New Paintings

Earlier this year I got 3 new paintings completed. These works continue my long standing exploration of landscapes around Tauranga, but with geometric elements that add another layer to the story. Check them out here. The painting on the left was selected as a finalist in the NZ Painting and Printmaking Awards 2023 and exhibited in Hamilton.

Today in Paradise

Another ongoing project is creating illustrations for a book called Today In Paradise written by Andrew Corin. It is a fantastic piece of historic fiction, set in the time of Jesus with a central character coming to terms with his past, present and ultimate destiny. It is a great read and I'll keep you updated when it is released.

Art Installation

I have had a good number of art installation jobs recently. This is always interesting and challenging work and something that will become a bigger part of my business. I'm available for full houselots, rest homes, galleries, heavy mirrors, and anything else that needs doing properly!

Portrait Workshop

One of the few opportunities to pick up a paint brush recently was taking part in a portrait painting workshop with Mark Anstis. I'd seen Mark's work up close at Tauranga Art Gallery and realised he had some special skills. Mark is the most technically proficient artist for classical painting in The Bay of Plenty and it was a pleasure to receive instruction and tuition for a full 3 days. Despite having a masters degree in fine art I have had very little "how to paint" lessons that break the process down into steps and stages. It makes something as daunting as portrait painting more comfortable, and I now know I can create a great portrait in 2 days. He is a very good teacher and I highly recommend it.
